Australian & Malaysian coaches on first-day match
The 2007 "Good Luck Beijing" International Hockey Tournament kicked off on August 8 at the Olympic Green Hockey Field. In the first match of the men's hockey this evening, Australia defeated Malaysia 2:0. At a press conference held after the match head coaches and team captains of both teams made comments on the match and answered the questions by the reporters.
DANCER B (Australian head coach): We took advantage in the first half and we won the match.
KUNDAN SINGH SS (Malaysian head coach): We are very lucky to take part in this tournament. This is our first match and it is a very rare opportunity to play against the world top team like Australia.
Reporter: Could you talk about your preparations for the Olympic Games? And what are your goals for it?
DANCER B: We must get the qualification for the 08 Olympic Games first. We will fight for the qualification with the other teams in the Oceania games in September. And we can only talk about the preparations after that qualification game.
KUNDAN SINGH SS: We haven't got the qualification for the 08 Olympic Games either, and we will fight for it in the matches against Japan and New Zealand respectively in October. We still don't know the result of the games.
Reporter: I would like to know your comments about the facilities, services and accommodations of the venues in Beijing.
LTVERMORE Brent (Australian captain): We are very happy to be here before the 08 Olympic Games. The venues are splendid and all the organizational and service work is perfect.
MOHAN Jiwa (Malaysian captain): The stadiums and the facilities are very good and the condition of our accommodation and diet are also splendid and very unforgettable.
Reporter: We have heard that the Malaysian king has specially come here to view the game. Has his arrival affected your performance?
KUNDAN SINGH SS: Yes, indeed. But we didn't see where he sat. His arrival didn't affect our performance for we have been accustomed to this kind of situation.
