In the opening match of the second round preliminaries on August 9, the stalwart Pakistani team fought an even 2:2 fight with the world's No. 2 Australia. At a post-match press conference, Pakistani Manager Islahuddin, Australian assistant coach Colin and Captain Majid made comments on the match and answered questions by the media.

Colin (Assistant coach of Australia): We're very disappointed at not winning the match. I believe that the Pakistani team have the same feeling. It was a close game. The Pakistani team displayed their style and both teams scored goals. We're happy to have competed with them.

Islahuddin (Team manager of Pakistan): The Australian team is a formidable rival. As Olympic champions they're really a very strong team. We used to play with them but lost on most occasions. Today they again showed their prowess and good control of the rhythm of play.

Reporter: Pakistani manager, could you tell us if you're satisfied with the officiating of the referee today?

Islahuddin: It was very difficult to officiate at this match. Despite two mistakes, the referee was very good on the whole.

Reporter: Australian coach, how would you comment on the Pakistani team?

Colin: Like India, Pakistan has its own typical technical style. It's very difficult to beat them.

Reporter: Australia will meet China in the next pool match, and the two teams are very likely to be pitted against each other in the final showdown on August 13. I would like to ask the Australian coach if you will go all out in these two matches.

Colin: The next group match is very important. I would say we'll do our very best in both matches.

Reporter: Australian captain, please comment on today's match.

Majid (Australian captain): We had many opportunities to win in this match. It was a pity we were twice forced to a draw when we took the lead.
