Preview of the finals: Australia expects for double crowns, China aims at women's

The bronze medal matches and the finals of "Good Luck Beijing" 2007 Invitational International Hockey Tournament are to be staged on August 13. Australia is promising for both men's and women's championships. China which also qualified for the final in both men’s and women’s finals is slightly weaker than Australia in the women's event and no match for Australia in the men's event.
The finals of the women's event will kick off at 6:00 p.m. August 13, the host China and Australia, both strong in the world, will compete for the championship. The two teams rank 5th and 3rd respectively in the world. Weaker as China is, it is competent to beat any opponent.
Though China lost to Australia 3:0 in the last match of the group preliminaries, it was of no substantial significance, because both teams had been qualified for the final. Both teams saved strength for the final. China did not even field the leading goalkeeper and forward throughout the match.
China and Australia will go all out for the finals, the situation then will be totally different from the preliminary round. With home advantage and the fact that Australia has some injured players, China, though slightly weaker, stands a chance of beating Australia in the finals.
The finals of the men's event will be staged at 8:30 p.m. August 13, and then China will challenge Australia, champion of the Athens Olympic Games. Chinese men's hockey team has made startling progress in recent years, but there is still a huge gap between the two teams. Australia is almost sure to win, but it is a rare opportunity for China to compete against a world top team.
As Pakistan drew with Malaysia, the preliminary match between China and Australia lost its substantial importance. But under the circumstances that both have entered the final, Australia made a clean sweep over China 6:1. Though both teams saved strength to some extent, the gap was apparent.
China is bound to go all out for the finals, but it is almost a mission impossible to beat the strong opponent. Nevertheless, to be able to compete against a strong team will be of great significance to China. Whatever the result may be, for China , the match is a test and a good opportunity of personally feeling the gap with world strong teams and drawing experience from it.
Besides, the women's bronze medal match between Argentina and South Africa and the men's between Pakistan and Malaysia will start at 8:30 a.m. August 13 and 11:00 a.m. August 13 respectively.
