Four medical centers for the hockey tournament

Competitions of the "Good Luck Beijing" International Hockey Tournament will begin tomorrow. It is a top concern of the organizing committee that first-aid facilities are available at the venue should athletes, officials, working staff or spectators get sick or injured.
Liang Xueya, medical manager of the hockey venue, revealed that four medical centers with standard equipment have been set up for the purpose. In these medical centers, from August 1 to August 13, more than 40 medical workers are on duty from 7a.m. to 9p.m..
The four medical centers include one for athletes, one for spectators, one at the competition field and one at the training field. The one for athletes are mainly made up of orthopedics surgeons to help injured players with first-aid treatment. The one at the field, with the doctors there keeping an eye on the competition, is responsible for treating the competitors on the spot. In case of serious injuries, with the consent of the team doctor, the injured may be sent to the medical center for athletes for further observation. "The medical center at the competition field consists of one doctor, one nurse and two volunteers," said Liang Xueya. "The work will be really hard since they have to stay outdoors all the time." Liang added.
The medical center for spectators will take care of the working staff, volunteers and spectators. As Liang said, the center is mainly composed of physicians to fight against common diseases such as heatstroke, high fever and cardiovascular diseases. As there will be more than 1,100 working staff and 5,000 spectators at the hockey venue, the medical center has an arduous task.
The medical center at the training field also comprises of one doctor, one nurse and two volunteers, who will treat competitors when they get sick or injured during their training.
According to Liang, the chief doctors of the four centers are all senior doctors highly skilled and with rich experience. In case of a serious injury, the injured will, after first-aid on the spot, be sent immediately by a 120 emergency ambulance to Beijing Medical Hospital, China-Japan Friendship Hospital or An Zhen Hospital for timely and effective treatment.
