(BEIJING, August 7) -- The Olympic Green Hockey Field in northeast Beijing will kick off the Good Luck Beijing 2007 International Hockey Tournament tomorrow.

One of the 13 venues in the Olympic Green, the hockey field stands at the intersection of Beijing's Fifth Ring Road and Beijing-Changping Expressway.

The field, which covers an area of 15,546 square meters, has been made in less than two years. It is composed of fields A and B, plus 14 auxiliary facilities, the stand and parking lots.

Field A, at the western part of the venue, has a capacity of 12,000 seats, and will be used for the finals, while the 5,000- seat Field B located at the eastern part will be used for the preliminaries.

During the Olympic Games, 12 men's teams and 10 women's teams will vie for two gold medals in the venue, which will be used also for football 5-a-side and 7-a-side competitions during the Paralympic Games.

The hockey field and the nearby Olympic archery field, covering a combined area of 21 hectares, are temporary Olympic venues that will be transformed into grasslands of the Olympic Forest Park after the Olympics. Man-made turfs have been laid in the hockey venue, and a 100,000-square meter space outside the two venues is being planted with trees.

To implement the "Green Olympics" concept, a sewage treatment plant has been built to recycle the waste water of the archery field. Fluorine-free refrigerants are used in the building's air-conditioning system to protect the ozone layer, thus fulfilling BOCOG's commitment to protect the global and local environment. Furthermore, solar energy has been chosen to supply hot water to the bathrooms of the athletes and officials.
